ORANG NATIONAL PARK


A predominantly wetland park Orang is famous for its rhino and tiger populations. But there is more to Orang than just these two endangered species. Other wildlife to be found include wild elephant, otter, fishing cat, hog deer, pangolin and several reptiles including python. Bird life is prolific and includes Bengal florican, pelican, Adjutant Stork along with about 250 other species of birds.

Due to poaching the rhino population gone down terribly, at present the rhino population is only 25.

The Sanctuary lies 18 km off the National Highway at Orang town and 15 km off the Highway at Dhansirimukh. For those travelling to Orang from Kaziranga the total distance is 157 km via Tezpur. Tezpur is 80 km away from the sanctuary and 62 km from Orang town.
